I have just been advised that the well-known aviation photographer, Ian Macfarlane sadly passed away last Friday. Ian was best known for his constant stream of photographs published at Newcastle Airport every since the last 1950s. If it was photographed at Newcastle, you can be almost certain it was one of Ian’s photographs. My sincere condolences go to his family.

I’m very sorry to hear this. As you say, Ian must have had a terrific photographic record of Newcastle visitors over several decades. I see that Ruud Leeuw has paid a nice tribute to him on his website:
