AR213 Grounded for 2009?

The ‘Fury was not on public display and remained in Kennet’s hangar for the day. You could just about see it when they began moving the other aircraft – Skyraider etc – back into the hangar at the end of the day. Looks nice…very nice. 😎

It is down to fly at Kemble and Cosford. It flew from Duxford to Kemble – where, judging from recent photographs, it remains – earlier in the year.

does anybody know if AR213 will be displaying this year or is it grounded for all of 2010?

Just been told that, after 40 years, AR213 has left Booker, and will now be based at Duxford.

From memory weren’t there something like 22,000 Spitfires and 16,000 P51 built?

In which case how do we reconcile Merlin Madness’s statement that the Spitfire is now not as common as the P51 if 1% of each type survives?

I was specifically referring to the mark 1 Spitfire being a rarer bird than the p51d.

Ah, but do those stats factor in the fact that many P-51s and Spitfires around today contain so much new-build material that in effect the original productions run numbers could now be expanded to take account of this which would marginally drive down the survivors as a % of numbers built.:D

Somebody pointed out that 1% of all P51s built are still extant. I hadn’t ever thought of it like that

Yes it is the true, the new owner of AR213 preferring Duxford rather than Booker as his operating base.
