Just a footnote about Paul Raymond’s auction purchase of Rudel’s medal. He paid £20,000 for it outbidding among others Rudel’s widow who dropped out at £13,000. She had claimed that the medal was stolen and tried to get its sale blocked. The story was that it had been confiscated by a British military policeman. The vendor was anonymous. Her attempt was unsuccessful. Raymond put it on exhibition in his ill fated Whitehall Theatre of War. He subsequently returned it to the Rudel family.
