I picked up some information that, during the Suez campaign, the Israeli Air Force borrowed some French F-84 Thunderstreaks and painted the Star of David on the side; while leaving all other French unit markings intact. Does anyone have any further information on this?….or better still some photos.

Whether they were borrowed, or just French aircraft operating ‘covertly’ from Israel is one of those questions….
There are a couple of books that cover Suez operations and cover this IIRC
I’m reading “Suez 1956 – the story of the first oil war” now – not got as far as the attack yet, but I recall even at “O” level history being taught that the French AF used Israel bases for the F-84’s while the Uk used RN aircraft and Cyprus (off thread…. a long way, but Hunters would have the range?) & Malta for Canberra’s etc.
Good book BTW – very readable like Anthony Beevor etc.
