Spitfire RW382

In the ‘other magazine’ there is a picture of Spitfire RW382 which had a fatal crash in the USA in June 1998 AFTER this incident. The photo was taken at Sandown in 2004. The point being is that I had understood that this aircraft was written off when it hit terrain but the picture shows that it looks more like a forced landing or shallow crash – the fuselage though damged is complete. Even though it was fatal

Has anyone more details exactly what happened to it when it crashed in Nevada

Thanks

Paul

Was it not stated recently on this very forum that she was being rebuilt with a “high-back” fuselage, and not the original low-back?

Aha, that’s why it looked so strange in the green coat.

Paul,

It was pretty bent.

It was briefly laid out ‘to best advantage’ with a few extra bits, cowlings etc…and a respray.

Some of the circumstances are described here:http://www.vicair.net/memory.htm
If you search the NTSB site using the accident date and registration you will find the above is based on their report but also gives some details of probable cause.
