Nazi steam aero. engines ?
Being an old git I have read and seen the Besler steam powered aircraft before! But I have also read that the Germans looked into the idea but can’t
remember the source, anybody else got any info?

Totally practicle for a car / aircraft these days.
Just need a small nuclear reactor for a heat source and away ya go!

In the early 60s, I worked for my friend’s uncle, Jean Marc, near King’s Cross. He was a steam fanatic and believed that steam cars were the transport of the future. He was so convinced it was a viable proposition, that he was in the process of building an engine from scratch until just before he died.
The vehicle he chose for conversion was an old Lloyd 650:![]()
Jean’s brother David, was a walking encyclopaedia and it was he who related to me the story of Henri Giffard and his steam powered dirigible, but either didn’t know about the Besler project, or omitted to tell me.
Nice one, Mr Creosote!:)

Well, that’s one way of getting reverse thrust – run the engine backwards!

Nice idea, what a shame the interest evaporated…….

What a toot — thanks!
Too bad it was too late for Hell’s Angels; it would have made a great secret weapon. (Howard Hughes was a big fan of steam cars in the twenties.)

Bet they were ‘chuffed’ when that flew 😀
I loved the design feature where the steam was going straight to his goggles 😀
