I just nearly fell off my chair. I spent many, many cold hours working on XD534 when I was a teenager. Took me about a month of solid work with an impact driver to remove the floor. We also swapped a complete Vulcan Instrument panel for the canopy.
Said goodbye to it when I joined the Navy. Last time I saw it, it had been moved to Barton in Manchester. Any pics of it in it’s current condition.

I understand in the true spirit of co-operation that these two aircraft were offered to other museums via BAPC E-Groups last week; before they appeared on the web. Good luck with the move! 🙂

Not a lot – with or without a current ticket?

What does a flyable Vamp go for these days?
By: Bruce - 27th December 2008 at 21:16
Vampire XD382 has already been sold (via Ebay), and it is re-appearing there in parts…
I think we can strike it from the list of survivors!

Thankyou for those kind words l dont have any up to date photos of the hunter that l can post but this will be the next aircraft we move and it will be repainted in the scheme it wears now
regards Dave
That’s great news Dave.
The last shot I have of it was taken in 2004 and shows the VL on the fin being painted black. This must be a replacement fin as the code didn’t go black until the fleet was refinished dark sea grey in the mid-80s.
The first FRADU Hunter in the call-sign sequence, and the first to be withdrawn from service – in 1976.

HI DAVE
THANKS for your support and understanding there would be little point in having two Hunter T.7 in the collection the area although a good size would soon be full if we had two of everything!!.
Everyone that has tried to buy these aircraft in the past will know how hard it was. The AVA purchased all of Stewart and Tonys collection thats how the deal went if you want a Hunter T.7 or a Vampire T.11 then step forward and make your offer but for the complete aircraft please!
Weather permitting we hope to be there on the 3rd of Jan

James – It’s called buying in bulk. You buy a number of items and the cost or perceived cost is reduced. The Hunter T.7 is duplicated so you sell it to someone who wants it. Similarily the Aeropark has one not two Vampire’s – the one at Long Marsden is in better condition so again you sell the lesser and keep the better.

Why would the Aeropark purchase the Hunter T.7 and already want to sell it? I know they have XL569 in perfect nick.
Which Vampire is up for sale? They have XD382 and XD534 pods, 534 has tail booms and wings too I think. I presume they will keep XD447 Vampire from Long Marston.

Nashio – The intention was always not to keep all the aircraft but to select the ones they wanted and pass on the others. For example the Vampire T.11 from Long Marsden is in very good condition so why spend many hours restoring the East Midlands one to duplicate it . Similarily East Midlands has a Hunter T.7 already in good condition so why have another.
There are economies of both transportation and indeed cost if you buy in bulk. So in answer if you wish to contribute a little more than internet speculation they are there in January and I am sure they would appreciate a hand taking the rest apart.

already aircraft from long marston are passing on again, i thought at the time that too many aircraft had been taken on board…
