Fairey Battle L5343 transport damage?

hello all

I understand that Fairey Battle L5343 received some damage during transport after completion of restoration by MAPS, any news on how bad or what the damage was?

Apologies if this has been covered before, I did a search and could not find anything recent.

cheers

In Aeroplane Monthly there’s a pic showing the straps without any padding, brutal!

I find it hard to believe that someone from MAPS didn’t notice what he was doing

Judgeing by the pics i have seen it would appear that the secureing straps used by the transport company/driver were tightened down directly onto the airframe, without use of any suitable packing material or padding between the two.
As an ex lorry driver i find it unbelievable that the driver deemed this as a satisfactory way of secureing a load, especially a historical load. Ratchet straps are very secure but very unforgiveing when tightened down.. something that should be remembered by anyone thinking of transporting items that can be compressed.!

My error was including the serial number in the search, which only turned up an older thread regarding restoration progress. Although the linked thread asks more questions than it answers….

Greg,

I just searched for the word ‘battle’ in the ‘Historic’ category going back the last couple of months and voila ! Although i can’t help with the actual content of the thread… sorry.
