Fanbloodytastic! I have endless vids and DVDs of FAA stuff but I can never tire of seeing more.
what is striking in that film is the swiftness of the recoveries, one Phantom just comes to a stop and starts folding wings as you see the next one in the background lining up for the round down.
Also shows the bravery of these aircrews, their first arrested landings are for real and at sea, same for the ctapault take off.
If the last Bucc missed the wire again he would have enjoyed a better mess meal at St Mawgan!

This footage is taken from the ‘Sailor’ TV documentary series from 1976 and very good it is too. All the aircraft featured (Buccaneer S2809 Squadron and Phantom FG1892 Squadron) were 100% owned by the Royal Navy.

Ironically the pilot seen bolting all those times was on attachment from the RAF! Whilst his Commanding Officer, Lt Cdr Keith Somerville-Jones, appears very relaxed here, apparently he later gave him a right grilling!

That was great. Bet I’m not the only one who gave a little clap when the Bucc pilot trapped at the 6th or 7th attempt. A poignant reminder too of when we had real air power at sea (no offence to the Harrier boys of course)

…when the FAA didn’t have to make do with RAF aircraft as they don’t have any jets!

Waiting to be corrected
