8 March 2009:
Taiwan newspaper claims: one week before IJN attacked Pearl Harbour, ROC military intel deciphered Imperial Jap military communications, and immediately warned USA, but USA ignored it as a trick to antagonise Japan and USA relations.
(IIRC, Pearl Harbour command was warned about a possible attack, but they thought it would be by local saboteurs, and not by enemy fighter-bombers?)

Hi,
I agree with the ‘Remember Pearl Harbour’ sentement, but I also remember that british commonwealth forces and territories were involved on that day……….I found this very interesting……..

One of my schoolteachers was captured by the japanese in Malaya and spent years in Changi. John became a good friend and mentor later in my life. I’ll always remember what he told me about Changi and the lasting effect it had on him.
cheers,
-John

How long after the attack was it before Pearl Harbour had been completely repaired?

22 December 2008:
On 7 December 1941, during the Pearl Harbour attack, an IJN Zero fighter had engine trouble, and emergency landed on Niihau Island.
A Nisei (“Second Generation”; US citizen who was born and grew up in US, and whose parents immigrated from Japan) called Harada Yosio (then 39) hid the pilot, Petty Officer First Class (posthumous Ensign) Nisikaiti Sigenori.
They attempted to recover Nisikaiti’s captured map and pistol, and battled islanders. Nisikaiti was killed, and Harada committed suicide.
Six days after the Pearl Harbour attack, on 13 December 1941, Harada’s wife Umeno was arrested for treason, and detained for two years nine months. Soon, she learnt and worked as a tailor, and raised her three children.
Harada’s younger brother attempted to help clear Harada’s reputation, and joined the Nisei units of US Army.
Nisikaiti’s family lived in Imabari City, Ehime Prefecture.
In 1968, Nisikaiti’s younger brother, Yositada (now 78 in 2008), moved to Kauai Island and met Harada’s wife. She and Harada’s brother did not blame or complain about Nisikaiti.
She died, 10 or more years ago.

Saturday was my 5th Wedding Anniversary.
When we arranged it we had 2 options for the date, the 6th of December and the week prior.
I picked the 6th as it was the day before Pearl Harbour, therefore I was far more likely to remember my anniversary in years to come as it’s the day before ‘day of infamy’.
I’m not sure my Wife appreciates my reasoning though. Makes perfect sense to me!John
I’m in the same boat.
My wife’s birthday is June 5…so your logic works for me.:D
Oddly, my late first wife’s birthday was June 7…so D-Day has always been helpful as a reminder.

We were at the Pearl Harbor Survivors Assn. “Last Gathering” in Fredericksburg, TX yesterday along with an impressive private gathering of aircraft. Talked to some of the survivors as well. Sad to say, I think that it’s quickly becoming forgotten in the US as well.

RIP indeed.
But it should also not be forgotten that without Pearl Harbour, WW2 would have gone on well after 1945. The USAAF 8th Airforce would not have been in UK (and over Germany!). The TORCH landings might never have taken place – let alone D-Day in Normandy!!!
Those who died on the “Day of Infamy” may not have realised it but they shortened the War. Not, of course, that that’s of any comfort to their Rellies!
Respectfully
Resmoroh
