Margaret Dove

This is probably very small beer to you guys, but suggestions would be most welcome.

On one of my customary trips to the Douglas, Isle of Man, Amenity Site, I picked up an aged paperback copy of Spencer Dunmore’s novel, ‘Bomb Run’ – about a Lancaster crew on their last trip of a tour. The book bore an interesting inscription:-

“Margaret Dove, 1973.

Roy Chadwick CBE MSc FRAeS FRSA, my father, designed the Lancaster Bomber”.

The book appears to have been through a local charity shop, and had been priced at 20p ….

I wondered if there might be a special interest group or museum that might like to have this book? It seems a pity to lose this link with a fine lady.

I met her very briefly in the early 90s. After watching her inteview on the Stanley Hitchcock Shackleton film I was keen to meet her. I was very surprised by her enthusiasm and knowledge of the Shackleton, less so about her utter dedication and pride in her fathers memory.
Condolences to the family.

I met Margaret a number of years back at the RAF Club, We kept in contact and she was very passionate about her fathers work and aircraft designs. I was saddened earlier today to find an e mail from the family and about the news.

She was a lovely lady. I met her at the opening of the Lancaster Exhibition which I put together for the North West Museum Of Science And Industry, many years ago.

She was enormously proud of her father’s achievements, and particularly so of the Lancaster.

Sorry to hear this news.
