A tragic conclusion to this thread.

Herve Da Silva lost his life in the aeroplane which he restored, a few weeks ago

This from the International Auster Club facebook page. (4,10 2014)

It is with great sadness that I have just heard about the tragic death of Herve Da Silva a French Auster member and personal friend. From what I know, Herve was taking off from his home base Moret in his Auster and crashed shortly after take off in a field. Herve was fanacatical about Austers and was a great help to me when I started my restoration. My thoughts are with his wife Sandrine, his family and friends.

RIP mon ami..

Magnificent work on a beautiful little aeroplane. I have always loved the Auster… and it’s nice to see one back in such fantastic condition. Many congratulations!

Cheers… et bon chance!

Et maintenant le cinquième Auster inscrit en France! Well enough of the French since it seems to be causing disquiet in some quarters. I hadn’t realised that the French Auster population had shrunk so small. Whilst F-PHSJ doesn’t yet feature on the DGAC database, when it does it will be only the fifth Auster currently registered. The other four comprise two Autocrats (F-AZDO and F-PAGD) and, interestingly, two Arrows (F-AZDZ and F-AZFA). That’s all that remain from the 128 Austers that have been on the French registers. There was even an Auster 5 (F-BGXG) based at Nantes – yakman kindly take note! However I was surprised, when I looked at details of the 124 registrations radiés, to see the immense proportion that were on the F-O outremer (French overseas territories) register. Ah well, back to the bottle of Savennières!
