Remembrance Sunday saw N473DC ‘Drag ’em Oot’ Land at East Kirkby for its winter maintenance and hangarage until March/April 2009. She is currently sharing the hangar with the Lancaster and will be undergoing maintenance starting on Friday.
N473DC was built in 1943 and saw a lot of service with both the USAAF, RAF and RCAF. She flew on D-Day and also for Arnhem and has the bullet holes to prove it with one through the pilots seat and a strafe down the starbord side of the fuselage.
The Dak was perfectly piloted into our grass strip and came to a stop within 500 meters. She is the biggest aircraft we have had in to date and i am sure it is atleast 50 years since one landed at East Kirkby. The grass held up well to 9 tonnes of aircraft after a week of heavy rainfall.
Both the Lancaster and Dak will be starting their winter servicing at the end of the week.
