Mystery Aircraft

Hello All.

I am trying to ID the lower aircraft in the attached photo.
There is a possibility it could be French, and either a jet or glider.
Anyone have any idea as to what it is please?

The enquiry is on behalf of someone who contacted the Solway Aviation Museum.
