17 Squadron 1938

Hi all,
Can anyone let me know if there was an airman by the name of R V Meredith with 17 Squadron in 1938.
I know there was an A D Meredith with them during the Battle of Britain and I wondered if they were related or in fact the same person whose name has become corrupted over the years. According to Wynn A D Meredith joined 17 in May 1940.
Many thanks
Gerry

Hi Gerry,

The June 1938 Air Force List gives R V Meredith as serving with No.17 Sqn and states his posting in date was 8th Jan 1938.

Feb 1939 list confirms squadron and date of posting in.

Thanks Ross,
That answers my question then.
I have received a picture of him and wanted to ensure that it was not captioned wrongly by mistake. I am still looking for a photo of the Meredith that flew in the Battle.
Best wishes
Gerry

Hi Gerry,

I have a note that Richard Vincent Meredith (39746) was promoted to Pilot Officer w/e/f 15th March 1938.

I’m away from home until the weekend but will look up my paper copies of the Air Force List to see his postings.

More to follow on Friday.

Regards
Ross
