Hello Ian,
Many thanks for your reply. I was wondering if by some chance you (or anyone else) had any photos of XP701 that I could add to the gallery for this airframe please? Thanks in anticipation.

I was wondering if anyone could put me in touch with Ian Black as I would like to contact him about some on-going research that I have regarding Lightning XP701 on behalf of the Robertsbridge Aviation Society in East Sussex where XP701’s cockpit section resides. I am compiling a history of XP701 for our web site, including a chronology and photos.
Thanks in anticipation.

John “BJ” Aldington was one of the Lightning Flying Club’s pool of pilots that went on to fly the numerous Hunters at Exeter. The last I heard was he was with Scot Airways on the Dornier 328s.

I’ve been in email contact with Ian over the past couple of weeks a few times. He’s heading back to Thunder City for a visit next month.

Anyone know what any of the other Binbrook pilots of Ian Black’s era are doing now?
Dont kow all of their where abouts, but I know John Spencer enjoys retirement, golfing and fast taxying our two when we ask him, which he loves, he isnt in the best of health though.
Andy Williams (our first fast taxying pilot) still flys occasionally
Jake Jarron has retired and spends alot of time restoring clocks
Chris Berners Price (728’s delivery pliot) flys for BA and we still keep intouch with him, he may well come and taxy 728 again this year.
Im sure others will fill in the rest, as Im not sure 😉

As far as I know he flies for an airline of some description and as Lindy’s Lad rightly points out he is now back current on the Lightnings at Thunder City in SA.
John.
….it’s a hard life, but somebody’s gotta do it!…. 😉

Clive Rowley who was c.o. of the Lightning Training Flight moved onto Tornado F.3’s at Coningsby and became c.o. BBMF, he is now a guide at the BBMF visitor center and flies Grob Tutors as a reservist at Cranwell.

Captain with Virgin Atlantic, confirmed by a guy I know who flies with him.

As far as I know he was also the last pilot to pass the LTF course at RAF Binbrook.. Think those thoughts on Virgin Atlantic are spot on but he is now definately back in the Lightning saddle!
