Proctor 3 LZ791 (G-AKEX)

After a lot of thought it has been decided that KEX will be finished in her exact RAF wartime colours with a possible later change maybe, to her first civil scheme of overall cream with deep burgundy markings. We are uncovering so much of her original military finish and markings as we remove fabric and scrape away paint that we have great references to refer to for the various stencils used and the exact positions. What we will be needing is the clear perspex D/F housing for the roof and an aerial. The P51 Mustang had a wooden aerial, was the Proctors also wood or metal? The wartime recognition/signal lights two white and one amber are still in position to the underside of the fuselage and will work. Any information leading to a D/F housing or drawings/size would be much appreciated, as would close up pictures of a Mk 3 in RAF trim, just to ensure that nothing has been missed. Interior shots would also help us. Another reason for returning her to RAF markings is that as and when she receives her civil scheme it will be more authentic after some years of wear and tear to see parts of her RAF scheme peeking out from under the cream finish where paint has been chipped or worn away, exactly what we are seeing now 58 years after demob! We now have the Mk V in the workshop alongside 791 she will be authentic in period civil colours yet to be determined.

DF Loop covers

Hi
I worked on many Mk 1 – 11 – 111 -& 1Vs in world war 11 & saw many of those A/C fitted with the clear perspex cover, the A/c in question still bears the fixing position & marks where the cover was once fitted.
Nice to see the pic, which you posted, but I have never see that type of fitting before.

.
Maurice Rolfe at Moorabbin Airport owns Proctor Mark 1 VH-DUL, currently stored for future airworthy restoration, which still sports a DF loop installation but it does not have a perspex housing?

Were the aerials, and DF Loops fitted in the same aircraft?, I dont recall ever seeing such a photo? and I expect the DF loop would have compromised the aerial mast location and aerial wire itself?

This was the ex-RAF Proctor P6187 civlianized in 1946 as G-AHFU. It was not exported to Australia, however, until 1958 – a late-comer as far as Proctors go. When Geoff Goodall took the above shot in at Bankstown, NSW, January of 1964 the aircraft was owned by the Dulmison Co, (now Dulmison Australia) a leading supplier of electric utility and transmission equipment. As this is wriitten (in Raleigh, NC, in September 2006) I am somewhat familiar with that enterprise insofar as my wife works for a leading power transmission consulting company who use their products. I suspect that their executive aircraft today is not a Proctor!
