Those two I knew about – I’ve even got bits off that Stirling at home somewhere 😀

The chap is adamant it was a Beaufighter or Blenheim and it came down on, not near, the airfield and it was a fairly spectacular explosion. Sadly that’s all the details I have.

Oxfords BG132 and HN671 6 PAFU collided near Northleach 5.8.43 and a Stirling EF201 of 1660 HCU crashed near Northleach after control lost 22.11.44. Need more detail to be accurate.

I don’t suppose said book mentions a crash at RAF Northleach does it? A local chap who was ex. ATC and had links to the Observer Corps. remembers either a Blenheim or Beaufighter crash landing on the airfield and its “load of bombs and ammunition exploding in the fire”. Apparently it was logged by the Observer Corps. but no serial/unit/date info has been forthcoming.

Nothing in the No.3 GTS logbook for November ’42 – January ’45 when the unit was resident and the airfield was unoccupied before that so I don’t know where else to look for and I.D.

Tangmere,
I have it in a crash log that the 2 JL serial beaus crashed in a mid air colision near RAF Bircotes, From your info this seems it may not be the case after all, at least it will save me going on a wild gooses chase:)

I’m still after the book ” the beaufigter crash logs ” if anyone has a copy they want to sell.

JL120 was a Spitfire, not a Beau. JL520 was a Beaufighter VI and was SOC in the Far East on 29.11.45

I have just scanned through the pages of the Beaufighter crash log and unless I have missed them there is no mention of JL520 or JL120.

Sorry.

Maybe one of the guys on here knows more.

Yorkie you could try asking Davski, who is often on this site. He knows all things Breighton.
