XH668.

Get yourself to Wolverhampton from wherever you are and it’s easy. Catch the Shrewsbury train and I think Cosford is about the 3rd stop, around 15 – 20 mins from Wolverhampton. The Station is in the middle of the RAF Station. One side is the training and domestic sites and the other is the airfield itself and Museum. It’s about a 5 minute walk from the Station to the Museum, all the way along the edge of the airfield. West Midlands Air Ambulance are based there and are often very busy and further on you walk past the hardstanding where you often see the JP’s of the Ground Handling School.

For those who, like me, are of the “older” generation I think Cosford station is within the WMPTE/Centro (or whatever they’re calling the west midlands transport Fat Controller these days) area. Which means, with a bus pass, you can travel there (after 9.30) for free 🙂 (within the west midlands).

Gotta get my bus pass application sorted!

Went to the last one in February. There’s not actually that much to see really and some of the inhabitants of the Conservation Centre are not that visible. However, there are/were gems to be seen, not least of all in the various components scattered around or stored in the racking.

The real joy lies in talking to those working there and to some of those who visit.

Well recommended, though, as I say, you may find it enjoyable in a different way to what you might have expected.
