I am sure many of you will be interested to hear that the four surviving members of 550 Squadron Lancaster ED562/BQ-G “We Dood It”, will be at Duxford for the autumn air show on 5 October. This number from one crew is getting very rare now. They also flew “Phantom of the Ruhr” a couple of times during their tour (which they completed).
They will be signing for one of the aviation art galleries.

OK, just the four survivors it is chaps. If you happen to be near the Lancaster at about 2 o’clock, that is probably the time we’ll do it.
Just as well anyway, since all approaches to Duxford have been met with total silence!

Could always take more than one picture, one with remaining crew alone and another one with reinactors present………..?!!!! Both “sides” are then satisfied.

I would have probably agreed with you, a year or so ago, but I am now of the opinion that the reinactors probably do as much (if not more),than the rest of us to raise public awareness, at these events; the ones I have met recently are total enthusiasts, and my hat is off to them.
I find they tend to get in the way of actual work being done so my reaction would be to tell them eff off 😉 It’s like the “Reno Syndrome” where a handful of people work on a plane all year only to have to deal with the sudden arrival of 25 more “crew muppets” who do sweet FA except get in the way & loose/abuse your tools….

To be honest, I think just having the four crew members standing in the same positions as the original photo would be a better idea. It would show the ravages of time so to speak.
Thanks for the heads up anyway.

I think that part is a REALLY bad idea. Putting 4 hero’s next to a bunch of silly sods in fancy dress is very disrepectful IMO

Does anyone out there have contact with the re-enactors at Duxford? The idea is to “fill the gaps” from the 1944 shot to the 2008 shot.
Help!

I am surprised that there have been 160 views but no replies to this thread. However, undaunted, let’s pose another question. I have a photograph of this crew by their aircraft just after they finished their tour, and the four survivors would like to replicate this shot at Duxford on Sunday, in front of the IWM Lancaster.
I have emailed Duxford about this, but have not had any response. Does anyone out there have contact with the re-enactors at Duxford? The idea is to “fill the gaps” from the 1944 shot to the 2008 shot.
Help!
