Indoor Aeroboot Sale – Newark

Anyone received details of Newarkโ€™s Indoor Aeroboot Table Top Sale on Saturday November 22, 2008?

Thereโ€™re more details on their website http://www.newarkairmuseum.org/news.php

As mentioned in an earlier post – I will ensure all comments are fed back to the trustees at Newark.

One point regarding the layout – I understand that this was done to maximise available space; I believe that due to possible changes in Hangar 2 content it might be different next time round.

Also I know that each group of visitors [visitor] was given an A5 handout version of the hangar plan to show all stalls as they entered via the Museum Shop.

I’m told that sellers came from south of London and the border region of Scotland. Would guess Newark need more feedback from the buyers about their travel distances.

Yes, I admit I missed Alan the first time, and picked up my cash box to go and find him to say hello!

Just a couple of observations from me.

Last saturday’s event was quite a bit busier than the first in November, so word must be spreading. Well done Newark.

Stalls 1 and 2 are effectively hidden from the rest of the event by those large Nimrod systems management instruction cases. One or two people said they almost missed us because of this. I know there was a stall layout pinned up near the entrance, but it was only on an A4 sheet of paper and easily missed.

Stacey24b has a point about the relatively early finish, but from a selling point of view, it was effectively over by noon and from then on, most stall browsers seemed to be museum visitors. Mildly curious but not looking to buy. Perhaps the next (November) event should be advertised as 9 – 12 a.m.?

I worry that another venue in the Midlands could spell the end for Dave F’s Whitwick event, which would be a great pity. Not an extra date on the calendar, but a replacement. And possibly a bit too far North to attract stalls and visitors from “down South”? (And West, written with guys like Rodney Rose in mind)

This was my first time as a seller, and my first aerojumble for some time.

Things started well – though in truth we all sold to one another for the first hour or so. After that, it got very quiet – I couldnt give stuff away that I would sell very well on Ebay.

There was plenty of advertising, but I think the cold weather put some off. I will wrap up warmer next time.

I think it would be worth aiming for end of March next time – just that bit warmer.

It was however great to meet up with a lot of you who have just been names on a forum up until now.

I’m not sure either, but there seemed to be a reasonable amount of vehicle movements, collecting larger items; plus parcel laddened buyers!

Are there any ideas that I can feedback to the museum, especially with regard to trying to attract more visitors to this type of event?

Iโ€™m reliably informed that the museum sent out more than 300 emails to various aviation contacts; they also advertised the event; posters and flyers were sent to other events; it was discussed on various aviation fora; they even reduced their admission prices for the day.

So what was missed?

Donโ€™t forget the next one will be during Cockpitfest 2009.

A good Day Out.

๐Ÿ˜€

My thanks to Roly of the Aviation Bookshop Stand for finding my grab bag of Goodies I left behind, ( It’s the atmosphere I tell you, LOL  )

The Museum could have done with more visitors as could the Jumblers, but not bad for a cold February day. Organisation was good and the location in amongst the museum Exhibits was spot on. Everyone was very friendly too.

We never noticed any problems with the Circus Demonstrations either. But usual traffic build-up on turning off A1 made us use the back route in in morning.

A worthwhile trip for me.

As well as meeting a few fellow forumites got some bits for the Sea Hawk and Prince, plus I even ended up with bits I didnt really want but got as part of a deal for ones I did. Still, it at least means I have an empty JP instrument panel to add to the swaps pile ๐Ÿ™‚

Spoke to someone at the museum today and they seemed fairly pleased with everything at the event on Saturday.

๐Ÿ™ There were a few traffic jams for those people coming into Newark from the west, but I understand that the A17 route was OK most of the day.

XH668 โ€“ the next Aeroboot is June 13 & 14 as part of Cockpitfest 2009; I understand that some booking forms were circulated yesterday.

The word from the museum is that all the Cockpitfest participation information is being posted of very soon. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Just caught the local news – the circus was picketed by a few protestors in the dark – so it should be clear tomorrow morning … remember A17 route in! ๐Ÿ˜€

Thanks Roger – other side of the Showground fortunately! The advice about approaching the museum from the A17 side still holds good! ๐Ÿ˜€

I see on both main TV channel news they are carrying the story that a circus just opening a 2 week run at “Newark Showground” (Winthorpe I presume) has three performing elephants in it.

Hope this doesn’t affect NAM – ie either a surge of visitors because of all the free publicity OR hordes of animal rights protestors OR both??

Roger Smith.

The load will hopefully include the socket you are seeking, Jon!

Fingers crossed ๐Ÿ˜€
