It will be nice to see a Hurricane based at North Weald when its finished ,i used to go there every saturday to the market ,but sadly i cannot go there any more as i have moved to Norfolk ,am i right in saying PT,s hanger is the one with a chain across the door with a sign, thats the Hanger anyway ,its the only new looking hanger on North Weald ,i miss going to the Old Fighter Meet Airshow ,which started with Paul Warren Wilson and John Watts ,great airshow ,,why did it pack up ? i had heard some where it was due to excesive police overtime and from what i can remember it was way over policed ,and the cost of running the show went through the roof
cheers from Terry

The last couple of shows at North Weald were set up by a friend of Dave Gilmours from Pink Floyd
That was Brendan Walsh – he worked for Dave runnning his aviation interests.

Where did this one come in??
The Hangar 11 thread started going off at a tangent discussing the North Weald Air Show, so the NW posts were put in quarantine here.
Any exclamation about flying refers to the Hangar 11 Hurricane.

If anyone really wants to find out why there is no Fighter Meet Airshow at North Weald ,the person to ask is Paul Warren Wilson ,you will find him Flying the Catalina at Duxford ,the other 2 people who started the whole thing are no longer with us ,John Watts and Arthur Gibson ,but i think you will find i was correct in my earlier post ,gone off track about the Hanger 11 Hurricane ,i never repeat what ive been told , to you know who !!!
Cheers Terry

Nope – nothing to do with Stansted. Its quite possible to stage shows at Weald in the future (and there is growing will to do so) so long as someone is prepared to stand up and organise one. The inauguration of the gate guard Hurricane earlier this year had an excellent turn-out and showed what could be possible once again..
Quite, as the turnout for the fly-ins also proves, I asked because I have always wrongly thought this was the reason, as I suspect many others do, thanks for putting that right!
Any commercial out-door spectator event that is seriously affected by weather (ie poor attendance and reduced income), repeatedly, is not going to survive for long.
I agree on that also, just a tongue in cheek comment;)

Was it not the proximity to Stansted that was the demise of the North Weald airshows?,
I have a sneaking suspicion that if 10 different officials were asked the cause of the demise, you may get 10 different answers.
I suspect the demise was for a number of reasons. I am not privvy to the finer details.
Suffice to say that North Weald continued to have displays at the AeroFair for several years afterwards.

Working on that assumption Janie, it wont be long before RAIT and Legends are curtailed eh? 🙂

My understanding was that it was the great British weather that killed off the North Weald show.

Rain had reduced attendance significantly. It was possible to ride that storm, but when it kept happening repeatedly from one year to the next, it was difficult to convince sponsors that it was a good way of making money. No sponsor, no show.

Terryham, as you are Norfolk-based, I hope you made the pilgrimage to the Seething show yesterday. It was great fun watching Janie (the Mustang) and the Yak-52 trying to out-turn each other.
The Harvard produced a spirited display too. There was one point where he got quite close to the crowd line* and I would have reported him to the on-site CAA inspector, but he was no-where to be seen.;)
*I made that up!
