As per the thread title, does anyone have a plan of RAF Morpeth (Tranwell airfield) as it was during WW2? I know the national archives will have one, but its a bit tricky to get to London….
Are there any photographs of the site during its operational days out there?
Thanks in advance

The dispersal was used by people learning to drive. This was later blocked off with a fallen tree and some boulders, most of the diepersal can stil be seen but is well enclosed with trees. In the 80s the local council decided to clear the airfield. The hangar was taken down as well as one or two buildings. The rest was oddly railed off leaving the hotch-potch mess it is today.
Best Wishes.

There’s not much runway left. Lots of taxiways though….

Long after it closed, motorcycles used to congregate there on a Sunday, for a bit of a blast around on a short stretch of one of the runways.
I was 17 at the time, and used to go there myself, some 27 years ago.

no info on there, but I’ve registered and asked the same question….
I have also e-mailed Hendon’s archives concerning the plans, but their replies can take 20 days or more.
The plans references are: Morpeth 1385/50 (airfield) & 1386/50 (dispersed site)
