‘Several Dragon Rapides were adapted for service on floats. The floatplane adaptations were performed by De Havilland of Canada, where they were fitted with Edo floats and a long dorsal fin.’

True story or legend?
I do like to see a photo of a Rapide on floats.

I’m sorry but that just looks so wrong. The wheeled undercarriage with those sleek looking trousers is a far better sight.

There is a photo of D.H 89 CF-AYE (cn 6304) on page 365 and
D.H. 84 CF-AVD (cn 6086) on floats on page 332…
of my beloved
De Havilland Aircraft since 1909, by A.J. Jackson. Putnam, 1978.
As a bonus, on page 375 there is a Dragonfly CF-BFF (cn 7543) also on water.

I have a b/w print of Dragon Rapide SE-BTA (6519) on floats, sometime in the 1950s

Another ‘picture’! Apparantly there was a choice of Edo or Fairchild floats.

Thanks! So we have ONE of several …
This time ‘not pretty well hidden by the bushes’ – CF-BND Forcelanded in trees out of fuel Digby Island BC 29.7.49

The following rapides appeared on floats. CF-AEO.CF-BBG, CF-BBH, CX-ABI,
All I believe with Fairchild floats and the “military” fin.
