Hi guys sorry i have put this here but before I phone DX tomorrow to confirm this,is the AA day definitely on Friday 22nd August as stated on the letter with the magazine and on the web site. They have got the P-51 and F-86a down for fly pasts as well as the F-15 I think but it seems a bit of a strange day for a show and did anybody go last year and if so was it any good?
Cheers Paul

Well I just got back and after taking another members advice and not expecting an airshow we had a fantastic day! Ok the F15s and Stratotanker were in effect fly pasts and nothing more but the P51 and F86 as usual didnt disappoint and while I never lose interest in DX’s attractions there was the added American interest which was topped off magnificently with the band ‘Touch and Go’ playing out of Hangar 4?(thought that was strange but hey)to finish off a top day.I will add photos of the superb F86,P51 and Spit flypast in due course.
Thanks USAFE and IWM DX

Just make sure you do something with the jar.
My mate was taking his dog for a walk on !!!!!! beach very early last sunday morning and came across a washed up canister. Thinking it might be chemicals or explosives or whatever, he peered at the lid to find it inscribed with the name of a certain local Crematorium followed by some late gentlemans name.
Taking a chance he unscrewed the lid prior to taking it to the local police station, only to find it full of stones, it was obviously intended to follow it’s occupants mortal remains into the waves, but such is the power of the sea!!
So where to you want to be tipped out then, is this a service that DX provide, have you checked with them before making your will, when that container gets opened, there ain’t much left, and I can’t think of many cinder paths around DX that would accomodate it.
Lets not be morbid and look forward to a good, schoolkid friendly day out on Friday, with a lot of imput from our mates in the USAF.
I’m only 42 – made the will to make sure the nippers are taken care of, will make more “formal” enquiries hopefully a few years in the future !
anywhere on the flightline would be nice – that said, I’ll be past caring so if I get tipped out behind a hanger I can come back and haunt it – maybe stop the Beaufighter from being shipped out !:diablo:

I have absolutely no problem paying the money to get into the AA day,and I think DX give excellent value for money;even more so if you become a member which for £49 ish pays for itself in 3 visits plus the added attraction of 20% discount in the shops, restaurants and on the airshow prices, hey I make the 80 mile round trip sometimes after my night shift and after a walk around sit on the grass for a few hours with my camera and relax;there is nothing better for me with the distant rumble of the M11 juxtaposed with the peace and tranquility of the airfield occasionally shattered by the flight of another aircraft.
My original query was that it is a strange day for an event if they are looking to get bodies through the gate,I thought an appropriate weekend day might have been more apt.

I have two children, 4 & 8, my son is 8 and old enough to enjoy places like Duxford and speaking as a parent with two young children that would end up costing near adult prices for both of them at some “family” parks around the M-25 etc, Duxfords price is, I think fair, and good value – especially with the policy on child entry.
I once had to list my 3 favourite places for a school project BSG junior was doing, Duxford was there and its even in my will to ask if they will have my ashes scattered there.
I like it, a lot !

I’ve said before that I can’t knock the admission price to DX, it’s not only comparable to other attractions, but kids up to 15 are free, that really makes a difference to a family day out, big time, and I challenge anyone to find an alternative venue that does that.
My only query is why it’s free to get into Lambeth and IWM North, some of this museum pricing is a mystery to me. Not as bad as many years ago when some particular government decided to charge admission to all museums, prepared to install expensive ticket machines, lost the election, the new government, whichever side it was, chucked them all out, I remember going to the British Museum and seeing all these state of the art ticket machines waiting to go in the skip.
I was thinking of going up to Notty next week on a family trip, it’s interesting to see how Notts County Council have such fantastic attractions as Wollaton Hall, Rufford Abbey and top of the list, Sherwood Forest visitor centre, all they do is charge a standard car parking fee of £2:50 all day and thats it, what a bargain for a big family with a big car wanting a day out in such stunning places.
Looking at whats to do at American Air Day on friday, is £2:00 on top of the normal admission fee that much of a nightmare, and please note that all kids are still free. I’m sure that our American pals are doing this for nothing as a self promotion exercise, and there’s nowt wrong with that.
Go up there and enjoy yourselves, my Goth youth might take some convincing, but we’ll see, he likes Yanks!!!!

It would be interesting to see if that is true of Hendon which is free now, but for some time charged.

And you are perfectly entitled to your opinion.
After all maintaining one of the finest aircraft museums in the world probably only costs about two pound fifty a year. All the rest of the income goes into the pockets of Duxford’s management I expect.

Aah, but there’s “Rip off Britain” version of accounting and common sense.
They charge such a price because they are recovering the costs based on the attendance that is on record. They (And a great deal of UK businesses) dare not take the risk of winning! If they charged half that price they may get three times the amount of visitors, which actually pulls in more money.
Same as pubs, prices get too high, people don’t go to the pub….brewery increases prices to maintain their margin and greed. Self realising destruction.

^^^^^^ OK thanks Terry,I am a member there so hopefully will get a discount on the gate price although £18 for a ‘non air’ air day does seem strange but only £2 over the normal non member gate price…Pleace forgive my numerical dy5lex1a:D

I think he means the F86 ,it is this friday and i went last year and if your going to see an Airshow then your NOT going to see one , all i saw last year was a couple of very quick flypasts by the F15,s from Lakenheath ,a very quick fly by by a KC135 ,who was miles up in the sky ,,should be a very small display by the f86 and Mustang and that was it ,its more of a ground based event ,rather than a flying display ,i never go in to Duxford nowdays as they charge too much in my opinion ,but if your interested in events on the ground ,then it should be ok ,bring back Mildenhall ,,thats what we want !!
