Here’s a small snippet from the unplanned and un-rehearsed Buccaneer movements at Bruntingthorpe last weekend…

5 years of restoration finally pays off as XX894 moves (briefly) in front of the public!
Unless someone wishes to correct me, I believe that this is the first time that more than one Buccaneer has taxied in front of a crowd since Lossiemouth 1994? Quite exciting to be a part of if true!

If they had received all the upgrades that were planned, they would still be in service.
…and the RAF would not be so stretched in Afghanistan – imagiane what the Buccs would have been like in that area…

exellent to see, these Buccs are No tonka toy, I imagine it was extremely hard work to get them in this sort of shape,
Great work.,

Thanks for the kind and interesting comments.
For those of you that enjoy seeing Buccaneers on the move, here’s some more footage of both XX894 and XX900 along with several other Buccaneers at the farewell fly past event held at Lossiemouth back in 1994. The video was filmed by XX894’s owner and is the copywrite material of The Buccaneer Trust.

I hope this stirs some memories for some of you?!

re
I remember when they gave grants to everyone living near a local airbase, to have double glazing. Then within a year they axed scores of bases. They sold all of the houses at Scampton, then apparantly bought them back!
Does nobody slam them for this waste of money?
By: Arabella-Cox - 24th September 2008 at 20:53
yeah they do that with the bases . Spend loads of money on infrastructure and then close them, lyneham will be next

re
I love The Buccaneer.
Bit of a sore point. Watching the Buccs on the news in the late 80s and early 90s thrilled me, this was what got me into the hobby (and the BBMF being up the road) sadly I never got to see any flying as my 1st show was in summer 1994, I was still at school.
It seems the MOD have a lunatic policy of spending lots of money updating airframes to make them last longer, ie Bucc, Jaguar, then announcing almost immediately that the type is to be withdrawn. The Buccs would still be in service now.

Ours is in Desert scheme at the moment, but during the next year/18 months, we are looking to go back to 16Sqn colours, circa 1976/7, one of the first squadrons that she was assigned to.

Does anybody else agree with me that the Buccaneers best paintscheme has to be the Desert cam from Gulf War 1?

There are three airworthy Buccaneers in Cape Town.
You can even have a flight in one.
See http://www.thundercity.com
They also have EE Lightnings and Hawker Hunters.
I meant in the UK…True!

Why couldn’t the cameraman have caught either one folding its wings?
Instead of a minute or so of both sitting still?
OK, complaint over… I really wish I had been there!
