Duxford 8th August

Went to Duxford today for what will probably be the last time in a long while – extortionate entry prices, as well as the same for the food (which was of bad quality), and poor presentation of the aircraft in my opinion, as well as the other WW1 exhibits

‘Oooo let’s hang an ultra-rare RE8 from the roof and have metal beams in the way of it’

Always thought it weird to put three very good WW1 exhibits as a sort of ‘tag on’ for the Battle of Britain exhibition. The radiator on the Biff seems more pointed at the top compared to others i’ve seen, both preserved and in period photos – is it authentic, or a restoration mess up?

The dH9 is a real gem, and the best thing about Airspace (well, except the balcony outside so the IWM staff have somewhere nice to sit and eat their lunch when it’s sunny)

Have to say i’ve always been dissapointed with the presentation of artillery exhibits in the Land Warfare Hall, especially the German stuff just put in the corner and called a captured equipment dump

With two chip shops down the road, not likely!

Lets hope that they are traditionally cooked in dripping, rather than the tasteless, ‘healthy’ rubbish that they use in chip shops down here.

I take issue with the entry fee to DX, looking around for a reasonably priced family day out last sunday, we found that those sort of entry fees were pretty much par for the course for any venue.
We actually went to Shepreth Wildlife Park, just up the road from DX, it cost us over £30 for 2 adults and a child. I wasn’t complaining, it’s a great little zoo and well worth a visit, but even dragging our feet and scrutinising everything, it only took us just over a couple of hours to get round.
DX has got so much to offer, even if you’ve been before, you can easily spend a day there, what other museums offer so much. Apart from the exhibits, ok, not always displayed to their best advantage I agree, you have the restorations to look at, films, buildings, little nooks and crannies to seek out and of course there’s always the chance of something epic to see being run up or even flying.
I’ve been going there for the past 30 years, even before it was set up as a proper museum, and I always find something new everytime I go there, don’t knock it, a great place that I’m lucky to live within a reasonable distance of.

Well I see your location is now Leeds Bradford so after a few months there you will realise what a gem Duxford is! 😀

I believe they do a family membership at £98; 2 adults and any number of children under 16 (hope some one gets this one).

Suggest you become a Friend of Duxford…£40 a year….get 20% of airshow prices, free entry other wise and also 20% off shop prices and the cafe….so do Legends, buy a couple of books and enter twice more and you have way more than paid for itself!
I love the idea that I can drop in to look at one airframe and leave…..makes it worthwhile!
