Pitcairn Autogyro in RAF service

I have the book lend lease aircraft in world war two by Arthur Pearcy. On page 162 there is a photo of one in RAF markings and i was wondering if someone could tell me what colours it would have been painted as i whant to model it.

I have a Pa18 model kit that with a bit of work can be made into one. And it is in 1:48th scale.

PA-39 was a rebuild of the earlier PA-18 design (http://aerofiles.com/pit-pa18.jpg) exclusively for the RAF. I don’t think there is a kit that you can use for it, so you are down to scratchbuilding!

There is some mystery about the aircraft – the official UK reacords record a number as being lost at sea, however in an article in Aeroplane Monthly covering the restoration ofthat aircraft, Stephen Pitcairn claimed that these had infact been sabotaged by german agents.

Stephen was the son of the originator of Pitcairn Autogiros. he dided earlier this year

Does anyone have a photo of this example?

Easy…the EAA Museum’s website.

The EAA museum at Oshkosh has a Pitcairn PA-39 in RAF markings (brown/green/sky w. type A1 roundels)
