Among some photographs which have recently come into my possession is the one reproduced below of a DH89a Dominie of Misr Airlines of Cairo. The photograph was taken between December of 1945 and April 1947.

Named Jerusalem, I am trying to find out the details of which airframe this actually was and the answer to another couple of questions. My research has led me to believe that the following DH89a Dominie’s were at some point either operating with Misr Airlines or were at least expected to. The details I have are as follows:
C/N 6544 ex X7384 (RAF) then SU-ACS with Misr Airways.
C/N 6545 ex X7385 (RAF) then G-AHFJ, then to Misr Airlines/Airways also as SU-ACS before being recorded as VP-KFW in June of 1948.
C/N 6551 ex X7391 (RAF) then SU-ACT with Misr Airlines/Airways.
There were two further Dominies destined for Misr but both are recorded as lost at sea. These were:
C/N 6641 ex X7524 (RAF).
C/N 6642 ex X7525 (RAF)
Any help in explaining why two aircraft were apparently both registered SU-ACS would be appreciated as would an identification of the airframe pictured. Finally, it would be great to find out the circumstances in which the two aircraft, X7524 and X7525 were lost.
Thanks in anticipation.

Kev……….
No mention of ship’s name, just says “shipped direct to Misr Airways Egypt”, “ship sunk on voyage”.

Mike.
Thanks very much for that. Your information clears things up nicely. Is there any mention of the name of the ship which was sunk?

Having consulted the two Rapide “bibles” (two Air Britain publications) the following would appear to be the situation:
C/N 6641 ex X7524 (RAF).
C/N 6642 ex X7525 (RAF)
were the original aircraft allocated to this order, they were registered SU-ACS and -ACT respectively. The the ship on which they were being delivered sank, presumably in the Mediteranean.
The replacements were:
C/N 6544 ex X7384 (RAF) then SU-ACS with Misr Airways. R/gd 25 Mar 43
C/N 6551 ex X7391 (RAF) then SU-ACT with Misr Airlines/Airways. R/gd 25 Mar 43 Named Al Alamein.
SU-ACS was named Jerusalem, hence your photo would be of SU-ACS (the second).
C/n 6545 ex X7385 (RAF) then G-AHFJ, does not appear to have any Egyptian connections. The a/c was registered VP-KFW in June 48. It crashed in Mauritius 08 Aug 48 on delivery, apparently still as G-AHFJ.

Some info. on Israeli Rapides but of little use to you. Interesting though that they were used as bombers!
