Impatient Virgin has just completed its 1st flight in over 60 year’s.

Restored by John Muzala of Pacific Fighters for John Sessions it is a rebuild of the P-51B of Wade C. Ross of the 376th Squadron, 361st Fighter Fighter Group that crashed in June 1945.

Some original parts were used but the majority of the aiframe is newly built.
The aircraft did feature a Malcom hood & a fin fillet later in its wartime career and the new Impatient Virgin is a combination of the wartime aircraft’s different guises.

If you follow the first link posted, there is another picture taken later showing the malcolm hood and the fin fillet. The invasion stripes are probably a little out of place for that build standard though.

it may have had one, picture says it was 1944, aircraft lost in 1945.
either way, nice to see an earlier mark in the air – love the Mustang myself but there does seem to be a “snobbery” about the “D” over the B & C which by most accounts were better performing (subjective term I agree) and more liked by the pilots?

Nice to spot the rare malcolm hood. I like it, even if it’s not the original configuration of this actual aircraft.

…but I’m intrigued.
Why the later-style Malcolm hood on the rebuild, as opposed to the original version? Owner’s preference?
