Latest Flypast – The U.S. Buchon Article

Can anyone tell me why the Buchon featured has a different nose cone from those which we are familiar?

I think it looks ‘wrong’, that’s all.

Overall, nice aircraft, though 🙂

I don’t give a damn what engine they have, as long as they look the part and are representative of a famous fighter, it’s ok by me, it’s better than having a fake FW 190, going nowhere, being dragged out at Legends over the past 2 years to impress the multitudes, but in the end doing nothing.
3 Buchons over here sounds amazing to me.

The FW-190 is apparently being worked on so that it can do a bit more than sit out the fun at Legends…

And a new-build FW-190 flying is better than none at all….

We all understand that with some people, Buchons aren’t much loved on here.
Yes, they get painted up to be something that they truly weren’t, but on the other hand, how many people have actually seen a truly original flying 109. Black 6 hasn’t been around for a while now, I was lucky enough to see it flying with the DB engined Buchon, in formation with the BBMF as well.
It would be interesting to speculate as to how many of these aircraft would have survived had not the BoB film rescued them from oblivion, probably very few, if any.

Och aye, there’s East Fortune an’ a’.

Had to miss it this year, though, as we were having training at the local RDA…

Funny you should mention that, bms, I noticed the Penicuik tag as well, so much so that I had to go and find it on the web.

At least you’ve got the Edinburgh Tattoo Daz, but granted, Duxford is ‘a wee drive, aye!’

Latest Flypast – The U.S. Buchon Article

The badge on the cowling indicates I/JG27, showing a stylised lion superimposed over a black map of Africa, and a wide-eyed face of a native African (very non-pc by today’s standards) The Bf 109e enjoyed some considerable success in North Africa and the Western desert in the earlier years of WW2.
The Buchon’s markings are of a later period however, but same Geschwader : the green band indicating ‘Defence of the Reich’ 1944-ish.
(Must pick-up a copy of Flypast though… one can’t subscribe to every aircraft mag! and I’ve been loyal to a certain other for (gulp!) thirty-five years!)

My Aircraft, My Prop Boss!

Thanks for the pics and post Daz, that’s one explanation for it.

It’s funny, I’d rather see it looking completely like a Buchon, masquerading in a 109 paint scheme, but not with the changes to the physical dimensions. Others would prefer to see it only in a Buchon paint scheme, or would like the Merlin exchanged for a DB.

As said many times before, the owner can paint (and build) it any way they please.

My only guess is that he wanted to give the Buchon a more ‘109G-like spinner, especially since the paint scheme is of a ‘109G (the precise unit etc I’m not sure – and I can’t find the damn book that the picture of the represented aircraft is in!).

Personally I think it looks bloody nice!

Yeh, that’s the one, Daz, the Kindsvater one. Part of a 40 page Luftwaffe special.

Which Buchon is it? Having not seen the latest issue yet, I haven’t a clue which one you mean! 😀

Kindsvater’s maybe? Or the recently re-registered G-AWHE?
