Flying legends balbo

Is it me, or have the flying legends balbos got smaller in recent years, i recall the balbo at the 1996 airshow comprised 39 aircraft, why have they got smaller, is this for safety reasons ?

I recall a discussion with Anthony Hutton of the Harvard diisplay team many years back.

He suggested that many of the pilots (certainly himself) actively disliked flying the Balbo

There are also aircraft that have gone abroad ( ie P-47, Tigercat ) while replacements are not yet airworthy.
