I only wish I could have seen Ray Hanna’s flypast down the Goodwood pit lane, which has gone down in legend apparently…………

Nice suit. Did he fly in that?
Thanks. No, he didn’t. A good way of ruining a suit. I should add that the portrait was taken before the run and climb.
That was a special day, for a lot of reasons; including Alex Henshaw, MH434’s first pilot, to the latest being there.

Great video’s everyone, thanks for the links.
Did Ray ever fly the Hunter in a display?
I remember we went to one of the last displays at Upper Heyford and there was a Mustang due to display. It turned out to be Robs Lamplough’s
G-BIXL,that had only flown for the first time after a long restoration a few weeks or so before.Of course this was before the internet so the news that it was finished had’nt reached the magazines at the time.
Mark gave a fantastic display in it,in what started out as very inclemment weather, see the sun didn’t always shine in summer!
Great memories!
Has anyone got any pictures of the aircraft at that time or the display?

Hi Tony ,i have not seen the video Spitfire 98 ,but have seen Mark flying the Hunter at Duxford ,think it was the Hunter in the Swiss markings, ,well the Swiss Airforce sold off their Hunter fleet some years back ,yes Mark was always the Best ,i was at Biggin this year ,,but a long way to travel now we have moved from Essex to Norfolk ,but worth the trip down ,

I for one was really upset when i heard Mark Hanna had got killed in a flying accident ,and my wife and i took flowers to his grave every Christmas for the first few years ,and yet i never got to know him in person ,only seeing him fly at Air displays over many years ,it was a real shock ,i dont enjoy Airshows so much now days
Terry
Hi Terryham, have you seen the video ‘Spitfire ’98’ the 60th anniversary airshow at Duxford? There’s a great piece where Mark displays a Hunter but it is filmed, mostly, in the cockpit and Mark does the running comentary. You really feel you are in there with him.

…and the one linked to by Tony at BH (posted twixt yours and mine) is well worth the wait – although the sound isn’t up to much (at least on my system).
It IS well worth the wait. On the original video, ‘Spitfire Airshow’, jou can see so much more. Just as Ray gets to the comentator he flies over a slight rise in the ground and you can see a puff of dust drawn up by the Spit. The prop blades must have been only inches off from the ground.
Awsome. Absolutely awsome clip.

Hello Bradburger its a shame i cant see any these videos of mark as im still on dial up here, …
cheers from Terry
Hi Terry
I’m also still on dial up with an ancient w98 system, but if the clips are short enough they don’t take toooo long to load, and the one linked to by Tony at BH (posted twixt yours and mine) is well worth the wait – although the sound isn’t up to much (at least on my system).

Low flying Ray
I know you have all seen this clip before but it’s worth showing again and again and again. Ray at his best – flying low!!
