markings on an Oxford

Friend who is doing the piece on aircraft built by Standard Motors Coventry has come up with an intriuging photo.

An Oxford mounted on a trailer (the normal way they were transported from the Canley factory to Ansty airfield for final assembly/flight testing) but look at the serial!

Marked “VSTAN” was this a scrap/test fuselage for proving the method of transportation – was it built by Standard or Airspeed themselves?

Anyone got any ideas?

Roger Smith.

I would agree that it is a test airframe for ensuring Vehicle standards as they must have needed quite a few wagons. Even canted over the wide integeral centre section must have caused some fun on the narrow roads of the time.
