"Wot Plane" quiz.

Anyone seen this quiz on another forum? Not sure, but the last picture looks like a HP Halifax, although the lack of a nose turret or any glazing seems a bit unusual.

It’s possibly Halifax W7776 which flew on trials from Boscombe with a cleaned up nose and no dorsal turret.

It’s a Vickers Windsor.

No its not. The radiators and the undercarriage are typical Halifax. The Windsor ones were different. The Windsor didn’t have those fuel dump pipes on the trailing edge of the wing either.

If is the same airframe, it’s certainly sprouted different engines!

It did having being built with Merlin engines originally but was used as a test airframe, the fins are also different compared to the standard triangular fins.
The success of the Hercules engine installation gave the Halifax the much needed power and gave it a great performance boost.

Hi Steve,

Yes, correct. One of the various Halifax development protypes (look at the camouflage with yellow undersides). Don’t remember the serial from memory but could be the one that also tested the Hercules installation and various fin
shapes (R-something).

Definitely a Halifax. Mock-up nose for the later versions?

It does look like a Series I Halifax, despite the total absence of frontal glazing. I’m sure Cees would be able to assist.
