Duxford Pre-Legends – 10 Jul 08

Wall to wall sunshine today but with a bit of a cross wind, and Liberty Belle had engines running before doors opened. Fortunately it didn’t take off until after we got in and it spent the day flying over old bomber airfields and I think it landed at Bentwaters as well. It returned around 16.30. Local aircraft were going up on air tests and displays and the Gladiator went for a trundle on the grass and I believe Pete Kynsey took it for its first flight after I had left. The French fighters, P-40/P-51 and Spitfire arrived together with a nice run and break. Photos are in the order they were taken.

Poor old Pilatus! Such a shame, but I do hope they can get her back to her former glory.

Great pics, though, Brian. PS890 looks like she’s doing 400mph just sitting there! 😀

I really hope they can revive that abused Pilatus, after the unspeakable treatment while it lay in the field after its forced landing.

The lesson to be learnt from this is NEVER to leave an aeroplane unguarded, as it will prove irresistable to some of our ‘citizens’. Even the Blenheim was robbed of radio and avionics as it lay overnight on Denham Golf Course.
