The Chinook is historic (proto flew in late 50s) and there cannot be a post war aircraft that is more useful or done so much in the services…still earning their keep and will be for many years to come…..so stop yer no good helio bashing and credit the Chook with the praise it deserves!!

I see a lot of strange things in work, but I thought I was watching a seaking with no rotors flying through the sky until I saw the rope.. amazing 😀

Not something you see every day 😉

In reply to Fouga23 (and a slight thread hijack!), there was an incident a few years ago when a Big Helo was lifting the engineless carcass of, I think, a Hunter. All went well on lift-off. The Hunter’s fin cocked it into wind. However, “Them Up Front” put on a bit too much coal. After a few minutes the Crewman asked for a reduction in forward speed on account of the fact that “the suspended load had become aerodynamic and was formating on us!!!!!”
7 Sqn, RAF Odiham, HQ 38 Grp, ORBs may (or may not!!!) contain the details!!!!

thats why I didn’t think it would be such a big deal about it lifting a sea king..

Quick, think of a tenuous historic link…a Chinook once lifted the CWH Lanc!
There, much better.

And I thought you were going to use the SeaKing as the excuse!;)

It is historic for us over here as we retired the Chinooks awhile back!
By: pagen01 - 8th July 2008 at 12:39
Not particularly unusual, nor historic!

Nice little vid, it goes to prove that the chinook is not as useless as some tabloids would lead you to believe.
But it is funny to see the sea king turning on the rope and not even bothering the chinook.
