According to BBC says PPRUNE:

Considering that it is just a one off permission to fly, I do think the title of this thread needs changing.

Brian

Agreed- rather misleading as it stands!

Agreed, apologies folks for passing on a semi-false alarm, but great news anyway.

Have a great Waddington those who are going, my turn will come… at Fairford and then Farnborough soon after 🙂

Even if there was a fee to get near them both it would be a good fundraiser!

I think that would be the final nail in the coffin… The public have already paid more than enough to get near her!

flying or not, it is still great to see an operational vulcan back on the ground at Waddo! Is there any chance of getting XM607 and 558 together for a photo op? Even if there was a fee to get near them both it would be a good fundraiser!

Hi Chaps

I’ve been working flat out on the Vulcan manuals to get CAA clearance. As of this moment in time we’ve (MA) still not had any formal acceptance of these and therefore no PtF as yet. Imminent though:rolleyes:

I hope this is good news.
Strings have clearly been pulled, but whether they have been pulled with the requisite strength, and in the correct direction, remains to be seen.
What one has to remember is the old adage, when ops and admin/paperwork are at odds, is “and at the subsequent Court of Inquiry it was stated . . . .”.
Clearly, one bit of the regulatory authority does not want to be seen as “the unpleasantness in the woodpile”. One hopes the other bit of same thinks the same.
BUT, at the end of the day, such decisions are not made with the wishes of aviation buffs in mind. However, with the amount of money (either public or private) involved in this project I doubt if any putative “Sir Humphrey” would put his/(her) advancement on the line unless there were serious flaws in the procedures.
Let it be that all goes smoothly! Should there be (and the diety forbid!) a prang then you will see more vanadium knickers to the square yard being worn by those in the regulatory authority who only wish to cover their “6 o’clocks”.
Take care. All is, not yet, sweetness and light.
HTH

I might be wrong with that, but that was always my understanding of it.

Lets hope that they can get the DA on the Friday:)

It says the aeroplane has been cleared……not the pilots.

Possibly may be able to do the DA on the Friday, as long as there is the appropiate CAA DA person on site to grant it etc.
Pressume it’s not the same as a foreign mil pilot doing a practice display on a Friday for approval as this isn’t for a CAA DA, and the Vulcan pilots need a CAA DA…..???

Should be all systems go for RIAT though with any luck, even if a Waddo display isn’t on.

You might be right, but I always thought that the regulations governing airshows were laid down by the CAA, even if they are military shows, and that the CAA issued the display authority to foreign air arms when they participated at UK shows.

I might be wrong with that, but that was always my understanding of it.

Picking up on what pen Pusher has just said…

Has it had the permit to fly granted, or has it just been given permission to make a one way flight to the show? If the permit has been issued then is there any reason why it cant do it’s display authorization flight on Friday like many of the foreign aircraft attending the show will do?
