Ejection seat question

Hello all, I have just received a harness for my Mk9 ejection seat and am chomping at the bit to fit it but have a snag. How do I release the two blue straps that come out of the seat above the pilots shoulder that pass through the harness and then slot back into the seat? At the moment they are too short to even slot back in without the harness! You can see the two straps hanging down in the attached photo.
Many thanks Paul

Do you mean my Jag cockpit? It is GR1 XX977 It has been in storage and used as a maintenance airframe since 1983. Any photos or info on her are greatly appreciated.

Thanks everyone, the ‘go-forward’ knob was what I was looking for, I had already tried it but had no luck. You pull the knob backwards to go forwards!
Cheers Paul

Yes the mk9 is a weird seat,I always felt sorry for our Navy guys swapping between mk9’s on the T bird Harriers where almost everything is transposed and then flying the Sea Dogs with mk10’s where everything is on the ‘normal’ side.Even the indians retrofitted their T birds with mk10’s to standardise !!!! MOD aint that bright:rolleyes:

Paul,

As other’s have indeed speculated, there is a knob beside your thigh. The straps themselves are fitted to an inertia real behind the seat, and pulling the knob will dis-engage it so the straps can be pulled forward.

At least that’s how it works on my Harrier seat, so yours should be the same as (IIRC) only the headbox/firing is different twixt the Harrier & Jaguar.

Cheers…..

I am not a seat man,and others on here are better qualified, but you may have to move the ‘go forward ‘ lever at the side of the seat pan(beside seat cushion).
This lever is normally on the left side but being as mk9 seats are generally the ‘wrong way round’ it may well be on the right side of the seat cushion, probably forward to ‘go forward’ and unlock the straps.
Hopefully a seat man on here can confirm (or otherwise):D

cheers baz

Long time since I was with Harriers , aren’t these the “go forwards” straps, but I seem to recall there is a release catch on the right side panel by your thigh.

Yes a Jag, if you’re anywhere near Melbourne and want a look feel free to PM me, I’m more than happy to show it off.
