Theres just been a feature on BBC Look East News which my missus saw, but I was stuck on the phone and couldn’t concentrate, which seemed to suggest that the Vulcan was making it’s final test flight on friday and, she insisted, was going to fly over to Marshalls at Cambridge. I’ve looked at TVOC, but it didn’t say anything about this, does anyone know anything about it.

Sorry I couldnt say not sure what the CAA stance on that would be or insurance or funding issues. Sure TVOC would be the best too answer that one. 🙂

Hi folks,
Just too clear a few things up as a lot of stuff been posted on numerous forums. Yes the test flight was cancelled due too the weather and there where a couple of snags this morning that have now been rectified one with the number 2 tank that was reading incorrectly and the other with some bolts in the undercarrige which were done under an SI but unfortunately put back in slightly bent (you cant get better than a kwik fit fitter lol).
There is no way that 558 would of been allowed too perform at Cosford on Sunday even if she had completed the TEST FLIGHT snag free and then done a couple of DA flights for Mr CAA.
As for Waddington I know some people seem too think the CAA permit too fly will take a week too sort out but it will take MA about that long if not longer too get the paperwork too the CAA and then at least 3 weeks for CAA to give permit too display. And she still needs her (maybe the last) test flight done yet which I believe they are looking at next week but with our wonderful summer living up too expectations dont count on it.
Hope thats cleared up a few rumours.
Any questions
🙂
Thanks for the update.
I guess from what you’re saying, it will be very close as to weather or not she is able to display at Waddington?. I see that Waddington have taken the (p) – provisional off their website as far as 558 is concerned. Do you think if she’s not ready for a flying display, we might at least be able to see her there on the ground? Pride of place in the static 90th Anniversary display?

Had read something about a minor fuel snag? Hopefully Smiler or JBoyle will be along shortly with an update!
“DA flight postponed due to adverse weather
Friday, May 30, 2008
Due to poor visibilty and slow clearing cloud cover today’s DA flight was not possible.
The aircraft is fully servicable and ready to go and a replacement flight will now be arranged in the very near future.

Looks like she’s not going today… The hangar doors are being closed.
Can anyone shed any light on why? Or am I jumping the gun?

Excuse me if I’ve been totally mislead but didn’t the Vulcan do a flypast at Cambridge on its last test flight?
excuse me for splitting hairs, but the reason she did the approach at Cambridge was to check the ILS indications on the HSI

On PC without sound, so please excuse if I’m utterly contradicted by the news report!
Holy cow, that’s going to make a mighty racket in Cambridge! I was surprised to see on Saturday how low the puddlejumpers are as they come in (OK, I know they have to reach the ground somehow, but I’d forgotten just how close Marshall’s is to habitation) – if the Vulcan comes over that way, every car alarm and burglar alarm for miles will be set off.
And I won’t be about to see it… 🙁
