THE ‘REDS’ ARE STAYING IN LINCOLNSHIRE !!!!!!
It’s just been announced on BBC ‘Look North’ programme this evening that they have had sight of a letter from the MoD, via Lincolnshire County Council, which finally confirms that the Red Arrows Display Team, and its 100 strong support team will definately be moving from their present base at RAF Scampton to RAF WADDINGTON !!! They will not be moving, as had been reported elsewhere, to RAF Valley in Wales.
The Mod statement apparently confirms that the future move will be “subject to Trade Union consultation” and it is not yet clear as to the future of the base at Scampton.
Although their new base will be Waddington it is fully expected that the ‘Reds’ will continue to utilise the airspace above Scampton for display training purposes.
This report was also verified on ITV’s ‘Calendar’ News programme this evening.
It’s certainly great news that we shalln’t be losing the ‘Reds’ from Lincolnshire’s skies after all, tinged with a bit of apprehension over the possible future demise of the historic RAF base at Scampton.

On AIX there is a topic regarding scapampton and the possibility of the BBMF and the reds to move in together.
Seeing as conningsby is full of typhoons and will be for some time it would make sense for the BBMF to go to a quiter location along with the reds
Also TVOC are looking for a opperating base as brunti is not ideal to opperate her from and the runways heavily used for car testing and could be in a better state.
So why not bring all 3 together at scampton?
Its a fantastic idea and makes perfect sense, but I cant see it happening. It has been talked about time and time again. I had hoped (and still do hope) that the recent work being carried out on hangar 2 at Scampton was to house either the BBMF or the Vulcan, but given that only a few weeks ago we were being told that Scampton will close, I dont think we’re like to see any u turn in the near future… I think we’ll need a change at the top before that happens!

From a briefing to senior staff at Scampton it would appear that the current plan is for the Red Arrows to move to Waddington not later than Jul 2011.
Again, the current plan is that Scampton will be retained as a Diversion/Relief Landing Ground for Waddington and Cranwell.
Having been involved (in the mid-90’s) in the planning – and execution – of the moves of a number of RAF Support Units, you should be aware that some Totally Immutable Decisions were changed within a matter of months!!!

Its no suprise that they wont be coming to valley, least not for us anyway!
1, Not enough hangarage, running short as is. May have 128 looming?

This has been the rumor at Scampton for some time… I’m told that their accommodation at Waddington is well under way. I just hope that a safe outcome can be found for Scampton… I was on th base yesterday and see that there is external work being done of one of the hangars… I’ve no idea why, but I’m sure someone must have a use in mind for it!… I wonder if we’ll have to find a new home for VX927?
