G’day all formite’s 🙂
I have a picture of the Aircraft, from a sister of mine who got it from some long lost Scotish relitive’s, yes yes I know what a Mongrel breed I am :D.
Cornish(Pom EEK:o ), German, Scotish, Kiwi, Most Refined version Aussie :p .
And Sis said she thought it may interest me, WOT OH 😮
Relly were posh too and lived in a very nice two story joint in Edinborough’s loaded area a Scot’s mate tell’s me, got pic’s of the place as well, and it exist’s to this day.
Had the pic for year’s now, so thought I’d start some serious digging on it.
The dude with the Aeroplane in the picture is my Great Uncle Albert, brother of my Great Grand father killed in the great War in France.
Lost contact with that side of family for almost ninty year’s, hence the picture that’s come through.
I’ve dug as much as I can from Oz!, and have done the work’s with the Net and my book’s, also done the flyin slug City behind:rolleyes: , which had a short life!
So I could work out a close date for photo, as it had only 1919 on it, and Uncle Al and the Plane he flew in to Paris.
What do you make of Al’s uniform??, doe’s look sort marine Pilot like.
I Have no info on him at all, and curious if he had a great war part in aeroplane’s.
but a little on the Aircraft.
But what company?? No Marking’s I can see, Reg look’s changed when close up.
None were around for that long, some crashed, other’s Scrapped.
But would be interested what other’s can make of it
Eddie Coate’s was Rapt with a copy and it’s in the Euro Section for those who have been to the awesome collection 😎
We know it’s Ex RAF.
I can not seem to get Eddie’s link to work properly So.
Here’s a link to Airport-Data.com where I’ve posted it as well.
Great Site Too 😎
http://www.airport-data.com/aircraft/G-EAWH.html
Hope it work’s, the Reg in Google will take you there too with little fuss.
If anyone who like a Copy of the interesting Picture, just ask and can do via Email or what ever transfer deal As Icq, Mess and Yahoo have it. it’s Easy
Ok I must crash, I am Knackered 🙁 😮 ” Gut Nacht ” or Good Moaning all 😀

Thank guy’s
Ok, yep his get up doe have a marine feel to it.
I wonder if Al survived those hairy aeroplane day’s  .
Good stuff I have much the same here.
G’ day to who I don’t know.
Now 21 mate.
Now here’s the puzzel with all this, see the C of A date ok.
Follow this, to start with the first unlucky Vimy Commercial City of London first flew on my birthday 13th April 1919, crashed at Tabora, Tanganyika in Feb 1920.
Soooo Glad that date’s been lucker for me 😀 😀 :D.
H’mmmm that’s really not funny to most people that know me, BUT they were not raised and spoon fed on Monty Python, it’s helped a LOT in life so far…..:diablo:
(Vimy Com 44 built in end:confused: WHY:D chink’s cried poor but got them in end, Pom’s had to flog the Pig’s to someone………..alway’s wonder IF any remain’s of em at all)
Ok still follow T-21, That picture has to be in 1919.
Now let’s go though the lot then and see what other make of it.
Prod-13 (military). 8 (civil)
12 survived from No.2 Sqd service, Sold to Handley Page in Sept 27th 1919.
Four new DH.4s being converted July 1919 by Airco for A T & TC, the builder’s airline subsidiary.
Now of these met their fate, One ditched in ya Channel Oct 29th 1919, another crashed at Caterham Dec 11th 1919, the other two scrapped cost’s to high Nov 1920.
HP also produced DH.4As, three from new-aircraft and the last one an Ex-RAF machine(Me and Eddie thought this was our baby BUT date’s again!!)
Two were operated by Handley page Transport, the other two by Belgian Operator SNETA, until they got burned in a hanger fire Sept 27th 1921.
The last Civil DH.4a was made by the A V Roe company, for Instone Air Line. C of A Feb 19th 1919, as a DH-4 and as a DH.4A Feb 1921
This Aircraft was the last of the breed, bieng part of the Imperial Airway’s inventory when that company was formed in June 1924.
Now again, Al and G-EAWH and City of London 1919!!!!
Is it yet another X-file’s case for Fox and his Shiela…fade in twilight music here, nah na nah na nah na nah na nah………………
Is it possible that it was a private plane at the time.
As some people have suggested, before hand over to other source’s maybe.
One Scot’s I know who went and seen Al’s house and said they were loaded, and maybe it was the family’s own run around!!
I have heard rumour of Marine Company connection’s with that family line,
But year’s back I dropped it at GGfather’s death for the King and Country jive they sold em off on back then, he was just another 100,000 of those Colonial B&stard’s at 33 year’s old.
Poor ground pounder’s of WW1, Gillygaff 😮 that I woulda been up above that’s for sure  .
And was there a Reg change on G-EAWH look close at her, was she born again!.
I also noticed in different source’s and net forum’s about 1919 Aircraft DH-4As photo’s, of the first’s across Channel and all that, are mixed up with other’s a not all accurate as we might like for research detail via old photo’s.
I also think the field in the photo could only be one of a few place’s at that time.
Found other Pic’s DH-4As off net that look very much the same, and some still had the flying Vimy pig with it’s built in Head Wind’s in the back ground with DH-4a’s as well but never my Rego.
Okey dokey what give’s here T-21 mate, what can you make of it.
Ooooo Roooooo all for now

The DH.4 was operated on a Croydon to Cricklewood service by Handley Page Travel.
By: T-21 - 19th May 2008 at 20:27
G-EAWH had its Cof A issued 18.4.1921 to Handley Page at Cricklewood aerodrome where it was scrapped in 1922,
The other aircraft is Vickers Vimy Commercial G-EASI ” City of London” which flew on the Croydon to Paris/Brussels and Cologne routes, with Instone Airlines.

Maybe Croydon? ‘Handley Page Transport Ltd’?

Great pic !
I would guess he was a pilot with Instone Air Transport at Hounslow Heath, and remembering the parallels with merchant marine officers in the early days may explain the uniform ?
….unless anyone has better guesses ??
