Having just watched the most recent rambo movie, which is set in burma, as they are trekking through the jungle they come to an unexlpoded “tallboy” bomb. is there any truth behind this? were there any dropped in burma during ww2 by the raf? would this have come from any of the lancasters of Tiger Force?

Are you sure it’s not a Tarzon bomb?
AKA USAF 12,000 pound “TAllboy Range and aZimuth ONly” gudied bomb based on the Tallboy and dropped in Korea. Yank Scriptwriters may have only been a little bit wrong (haven’t seen the film, so can’t comment on it).

Tallboy (Tall story)
If it was a Tallboy, in the jungle and dropped by a British plane it would have been about 100ft under the ground – that is, unless it just happened to fall off the back of a truck and they didn’t notice, ha ha. Makes it even more unlikely doesn’t it.

the answer, so bluntly pointed out, is no!
Sorry (it was fair question though) 😮

I get now that there, is no possibility of there actually having been a tallboy bomb anywhere in the pacific. i know that the movie is complete fiction, like i said before “could there be a tallboy in the pacific” the answer, so bluntly pointed out, is no!
Cant see why some are being smartalec about it, it was a legitimate question!

Erm… all I’m going to say is that Hollywood doesn’t mind bending the rules every once in a while, especially when it comes to anything historical…! :diablo:

just scanned through the movie, and i can positively state that the guide says “tallboy bomb, english drop in WW2”

I have seen this movie. As I recall the bomb in question is never referred to as a “Tallboy” just a bomb dropped by the British in WW2. However it does not look like a “Tallboy” or indeed like any bomb used in WW2 as it is too modern in appearance.

rambo
reckon they should make a new film where the “junta” calls in the “A” team,
then we can see B A Baracus say to Rambo ,”stop your Jibber Jabber Fool”
and get some nuts!!!” 😀

Do they actually refer to it as a Tallboy in the movie?
Sadly, I’ve not yet seen this “beer movie” yet apart from the scene where John chops off some blokes head and then proceeds to machine gun down a firing squad and their mothers…
Where’s Chuck Norris these days?

12000lb DP Bombs,(Tallboy)
During WW11. 835 Tallboy bombs were dropped by the RAF on target, the total number of bombs expended on active service was 879 these were all in the European theatre of war by two RAF Squadrons No.9 Sqn,and No.617 Sqn,. After the war in Europe ended both these Sqn’s wer sent to join the Tiger Force they arrived in India just as the war in the Far Eaat ended so never saw active service there during that war. Regarding “Rambo” you have lost me I have not been to the cinema for over 40 years!. Nosmo King.

what I meant was, is there any plausibility behind this?
Nope
were there any dropped in burma by the raf or indeed anywhere in the pacific
No
or were they never deployed to the pacific theatre at all
No never!
By: Nashio966 - 12th May 2008 at 21:43
i know the whole thing is fictional, also i know that tiger force was disbanded before it was deployed due to the atomic bombing of nagasaki and the end of the war in the pacific theatre. having re read my inital post i can see that the question isnt quite clear.
what I meant was, is there any plausibility behind this? were there any dropped in burma by the raf or indeed anywhere in the pacific, or were they never deployed to the pacific theatre at all? i was just interested to see if it might have been a possibility that somewhere there was a tallboy bomb.
the ensuing explosion ……. :diablo: hehe i also like how the local tracker who must be half the age of the bomb, knew exactly what it was who dropped it and its nickname! 😀

complete fiction, and the war ended before Tiger Force was deployed
