First time i ever met Paddy he was at a Aces High signing event in the old post office, sitting back in his chair with a cigarette in one hand which he had been smoking whilst in front of him was a sign saying ……….”No smoking” no one dared say anything to him, thats how i shall remember him.
If you get chance dig out his book, its not very long but you will laugh out loud.

I did my ATC glider training over the same Tern Hill fields that Paddy knew as a child, I met him once at Duxford where he signed my copy of his book “Paddy”, he seemed to be a very unasuming man but the naughty lad seemed not far away. If only we could fit a fraction of the things that Paddy got up to into our lives,we can then say that we have had a full life. It is very sad to read of his passing,
Wing Commander Patrick Peter Colum Barthropp DFC. AFC. R.I.P.

It was the young ladies he acquired the services of in exchange for a tin of corned beef……. that made me chuckle

Sounds like a bargain to me 🙂

From the Telegraph obituary:

Quite a ‘character’ from the sounds of it. 😉

From the Telegraph obituary:

He managed to acquire a two-litre Lagonda in exchange for 400 gallons of 100-octane aviation fuel.

Quite a ‘character’ from the sounds of it. 😉

that’s interesting, I went to school with a boy named Barthropp, I wonder if they were at all related. Anyway, Paddy seems to have led a long and fulfilling life!
