As mentioned in this thread, I’m currently reviewing my collection of control yokes and sticks, etc:-
http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=79778
I have about a dozen Canberra control yokes, acquired over the years, and I’m having trouble in identifying the Mark to which several belong.
Much Google searching has actually got me more confused than I thought I was to start with, so I’m turning to the Forum in the hope of gleaning some clues.
Firstly, before I post any pics, could someone tell me why some Marks of Canberra have brake levers on the control yoke, and others have blanking plates in situ? Does this help in identifying the variant, or was it a mod. applied to some aircraft and not others, across the various Marks?
If it definitely helps establish the Mark of Canberra, would someone be kind enough to list them as this will help me narrow down the candidates.
Hope that’s clear enough and thanks in advance!

Thanks again Ross, your input is much appreciated.
So, mystery No. 1 equates to a B (I) 12 column (with auto pilot cut-out switch, not p-t-t as I’d assumed).
How about mysteries Nos. 2 and 3 then?
No. 2 looks like a B (I) 8 grip, but it has a brake lever.
No. 3 looks much the same, but with the addition of an extra bracket containing a switch for an F95 camera adjacent to the Dive Brake switch on the head of the control column. Plus, of course, it has a brake lever, which again seems to rule out B (I) 8.
Are they B (I) 6 versions, maybe?
Blimey, I should have stuck to collecting Lancaster stuff, you can’t go wrong!

Thanks again Ross!
So, has anyone idea what mark this may be from?
Clues/pointers (for the experts):-
The left hand grip is part of the yoke casting, i.e. it is not a separate, bolt on part. The right hand grip is a Dunlop part, AC14292, as fitted to the B (I) 8. The centre hole, where the brake lever would protrude from, has a blanking plate bolted over it. The Dive Brake switches, usually bolted to the top of the column, are entirely absent.
Is it just an early B (I) 8, or something else?
Also, an observation which leads to a further question:
There seems to be three different basic designs of Canberra yoke.
Your basic B2 type was a solid casting, with vertical grips and various buttons and switches let into it, i.e. this shape: I__o__I
However, another version of the yoke is also a solid casting, with sundry buttons and switches, but the grips are canted inwards: /__o__
Both these types have a smooth, shiny plastic coating on the grip and arms.
The third design has detachable grips on both sides, with a variety of buttons and switches, depending upon the Mark of aeroplane. Both the grips and the horizontal arms of the yoke are covered in the classic Dunlop pattern, as seen on spade grips, etc, which makes me suspect that Dunlop manufactured the whole thing?
The question thus being, why three different types and what can be said about the relevance of each type to particular roles, e.g. is it a Bomber/PR/Intruder split, or is it more complicated than that?
