Hi everyone, this is my first post after many years of reading so be gentle…:)
I was just wondering if anybody could shine a light on a myth that i’ve heard for many years now, that a B24 Liberator or Privateer crashed into or near one of the hangers at Boscombe down just after the war?
The yarn goes that it was taking off from the north/south runway and suffered somesort of control restriction resulting in the poor thing coming to grief just outside a hanger.
The question comes about because one of the hangers show’s some extreme trauma to it’s metal work at one end.
I kind of hope its not true for obvoius reasons 🙁 but just wonder what caused the damage……
thanx

Thank you Rocketeer, i was’nt expecting a responce that quick. Great work
Your right, very sad stuff indeed, even more so when it concerns actual events and not just made up tales.
In answer to your question B168 east end, and yes it should be documented for an article, its always caused some puzzlement from ourside of things….

And more…. It was from 1 Ferry Pilots Pool…swung on take off at Boscombe Down and hit hangar ferry to 22MU Silloth. Frederick Moseley Flt Eng and the pilot Donald Kennard sadly look like they died in it a Liberator III
sad stuff worth recording the damage to the hangar and an article in the Boscombe Bulletin….PM me if you like
