Having received my copy of Flypast a few days ago, I think the new design is an excellent improvement. That said, is the font size (small news fillers) slightly smaller? I dunno, it’s probably my eyesight.
Those who buy this edition might want to scan through the Classified Section – something about P51D Mustang Prints.
They say it pays to advertise. It does! I got a FREE copy of Flypast for advertising in the Classified Section.
The photography and layout of the new Flypast is better than ever. Interesting article about Westlands. Incidently, I thought that the Alcock and Brown Phantom XV424 was scrapped and the nose section displayed at Cosford. But no, the aircraft still survives and is currently complete and on display at Hendon.
Now, how many would love to see XV424 repainted in its Allcock and Brown scheme? I know I would. Costly though.
But what do you think…? Not only about repainting XV424, but also the NEW and IMPROVED FLYPAST?

Not a regular poster here so at the risk of being shot down in flames re the new format, sorry I just don’t like it. Having taken the magazine for over 20 years it’s not that I’m adverse to change, but it seems to be a triumph of style over substance. The font on some of the items is hard to read (Briefings) and in some cases relegated to the status of a foot note (Eagle Hurricane). Some items continue to hold their own but others just seem to be ‘fillers’; two pages describing 12 roundels anyone?
Coupled with the previously discussed supplement I think it’s far from Fly Past’s finest hour, reminds me of the books I used to get from the library as a kid- lots of pictures and scant info.
OK, my flack jacket is on so go ahead…..

Hello Curlyboy,
Thanks for your reply.
But what of the second a/c that flew the route with XV424, what were the names of her crew ? were their names on their a/c in the same style as that on XV424 ?
Any photo’s of VX480 ?
Thanks
Alex

Although I like the new format, I thought the warbird list was entirely pointless. Sorry guys, but it misses a number of aircraft, and includes museum aircraft that will never fly, but misses others. An odd idea!

Haven’t seen FP yet – is this like trying to copy the fleet directories that are often published in Flight?

The Alcock and Brown phantom is XV424 which is at Hendon, the one at Cosford is the nose of FG.1 XV591 and is painted to represent the real aircraft which is at Hendon (odd huh?).

I could be Very Wrong But some years ago wasn’t there another Phantom dressed to look like the Alcock & Brown aircraft XV424 ?
And if so then which is the aircraft at Hendon ?

Hi All
I’m not going to be anywhere near a newsagents in the immediate future, could someone please look in the supplement and see if my L4H G-LFOR, 44-79580 restoration appears in its pages. If it truely is a comprehensive guide, then it ought to be, it did fight in Africa, Italy, and took part in the beach landings in Southern France. A combat history L4H – a must include in my eyes. Otherwise, I’m going to have to wait til the weekend 🙁

I must say that I thought the cover image, and that on the supplement were rather nice too! 😀 😀
