Hangers at Bramcote barracks , formerly RAF Gamecock 1940 vinatge .
a few miles N/East of Coventry are in the process of being knocked down .
Could not really see if all 3 of the former hangers have been torn down ,
but from the sound’s coming from the barracks this weekend seems like all 3 may be lost.
will take a walk over the fields and get a better look one night this week .
with the last bit of former runway
at the Rolls Royce Ansty being ripped up a few week ago seems lke some of the past Aviation history either side of me have gone for good. 🙁

Possible, there were five ‘C’ types originally. Like you say I hope the art deco style control tower will survive.
Yes there were 5 C type hangars once.
I forgot to mention that as it only ever had steel matting for the three runways you won’t see any sign of them on google earth.

That will explain google earth then :0)
Shame to see more of our air force history being demolished..
Not wishing to seem confrontational…… but do you really expect every little bit of old Raf infrastructure to be saved?
eventually all of it bar the significantly historic sites will be demolished, and even some of those face quite a fight to be saved.

Got some influence Peter getting Google to fly over specially for that photo!:D From the absence of any demolition equipment, it would look as though the other two hangars are remaining.
It is unusual from an aerial perspective not to be able to discern the old runways.
The M69 is the over the old runway?

1 of the 3 hangar’s was torn down a few years back.
it’s the other 2 you can see on those sat pics that are being being torn down.
will try and get a few images over the next few days.
the hangars have been used for storage of equipment of the 30th signal regt.
but it looks like they are being torn down and maybe replaced with new steel industrial type buildings,
do hope the old control tower is safe .

As far as I can see, GE images are from 2006 and earlier.
Was one hangar removed before this weekend?
By: pagen01 - 31st March 2008 at 16:12
‘Seriously, amazing that they have done the update… ‘ You might need to run a reality check Peter, no way GE updates that quickly, besides the weather is mainly overcast in the midlands today!

yes I was going to tell you some one was at your door as well but that would give it away.. Seriously, amazing that they have done the update… I can spot a piece of funway I think, south east of the m69 near the b4109 road?

I only know this airfield from pictures. Whats the story with the hangars, are they in use?
Its often that unused hangars are demolished due to structural problems. People like to see them on the airbase, but no one are willing to pay for the maintenance. Sooner or later they become dangerous.
I hope they leave the controltower, thats an outstanding funkis building.

It was RAF Bramcote until 2nd December 1946. It was then passed on to the Fleet Air Arm becoming HMS Gamecock the next day.

I think it was RAF Bramcote – Gamecock was it’s name during it’s FAA tenure.
I don’t think it was noted on here that Baginton’s No. 2 hangar was also demolished a few weeks ago.
