What is a… "Buffer"?

I have been sorting through my airshow programmes and have got stumped by one of the listings for the 1986 Southend Airshow anyone shed any light on what a Buffer is?

I always though it was what is at the end of a train line! There is no picture of info about it in the programme.

A few photos of the 1986 Southend Airshow including the Tiger Moth Girl on the Wing, they are not the best quality and were given to me.

Yak 11 has it, a buffer is simply a time slot put in to allow for delays etc and enable the schedule to be brought back on time. One big one or a few small ones usually does the trick;)

Out of interest which Tiger Moth GOW was it?

Cheers

As for the Tiger Moth not got a clue have a photos somewhere will look for it in the morning and post it up.

Thought the ‘buffer’ would be the twelve minutes it takes the Cat to land at sea or built into the sixteen minutes it was taking the Gazelle to perform its display?:D

I can only agree with what bazv has said, a B52 flypast sounds most likely.

Could it be a period of time built into the show incase acts run late?

Sounds very reasonable to me !!
Only other ( much less likely) thing I could think of is B 52 flyby 😀
