Packard serial nos

I might be wrong here, but by the time Packard got to the 1650-3 engines,
they were stamping serial nos all over the place. The most useful
stamping was on the left rear motor mount boss. It’s on a small
raised block angled up at about 45 degrees. The format of this
number is a single letter followed by three or more digits.

Yes it does Peter. I cant say I have looked for part numbers there though…

I do not have a photo of it in place but this looks like it is the number on the induction elbow at the rear of the engine on the roght hand side of the induction elbow above the carb.

Sounds like you are talking about the “inlet elbow” Peter. ie the “Babys bum” as this is the elbow above the carb.
The induction elbow is the pipe which connects the supercharger to the induction trunk.
Make any sense?!

600693 is a part number. Unfortunately our only Packard parts book (V-1650-3 & -7) doesn`t list this item, but someone else on here will almost certainly be able to ID it for you.
As far as engine traceability goes Packard were not exactly the sharpest tools in the box. the only place they put the engine number was on the engine plate. Once this gets removed the engine no longer has an identity.
Rolls-Royce stamped it in at least a dozen places.

Looking at the curvature and thickness, a complete guess would be a single-stage induction elbow casting.

Interesting relic. I have seen numbers like this on our engines as well. Just off the top of my head though I cant place where it is..
